Dressmaker Commission Guide: 3 Early Dress Solutions

Before you use these commission solutions

This page covers only three jobs described by Into Indie Games in a launch-week work-in-progress walkthrough. Commission titles and pattern names are copied from that third-party guide dated around September 21–22, 2026. Confirm every string in your current Steam build before following it.

The combinations below are starting points, not proven formulas. Dressmaker supports more than one route to the same style target, and fabrics can reinforce a draft that is slightly short of the requested attributes.

Librarian Workwear

Target: a professional work outfit.

Take the customer’s measurements first, then open the design book. The third-party recipe begins with a princess bodice and a collar to raise the professional quality. Add peasant sleeves. For the lower half, choose a pencil skirt, princess skirt, or straight long skirt.

The useful idea here is the order of operations. Establish “professional” through the main pattern pieces before shopping. Then use fabric to strengthen the attribute rather than asking decoration to rescue an unfocused draft.

The guide specifically recommends the cool grey linen already available to the player. Check the fabric card in your build before buying; a renamed material or balance update could change the exact label. Keep the palette restrained and prioritize the commission score over optional ornament.

If one of the three listed skirts is unavailable or does not reach the target in your build, compare the professional value of the unlocked alternatives. This page does not claim that only one skirt can pass.

Flamboyant Funeral

Target: glamorous and elegant funeral wear that does not default to black.

The reported starting silhouette is a sweetheart bodice, flounce sleeves, and a mermaid skirt. The mermaid shape supplies drama, while the sweetheart and flounce pieces push the dress away from plain workwear.

The key constraint is easy to miss: avoid black. This is a flamboyant request, so treating “funeral” as an automatic black-only rule works against the brief. Build the intended mood through richer materials and trim instead.

The WIP guide suggests velvet and elegant white lace. If the draft is below the requested score, look for fabrics tagged toward glamour or elegance at the Emporium. Buy enough cloth for every panel, but stay inside the customer’s budget. Lace can polish the result; it should not replace the attributes supplied by the silhouette and main fabric.

Before cutting, preview where the velvet or any print lands on the bodice and mermaid panels. A flamboyant dress benefits from deliberate pattern placement, not merely more accessories.

Fierce Funeral

Target: a black-only look with gothic and professional qualities.

Here the color restriction is firm: use only black. The third-party recipe lists an elevated sweetheart bodice, pointed collar, flounce sleeves, and a professional skirt. This combination balances a dramatic upper silhouette with a more controlled lower half.

Suggested fabrics include black-and-white polka linen, black corduroy, and black pinstripe wool. Because the guide also says “black only,” inspect the polka material in your current build before choosing it; if its visible white pattern conflicts with the customer requirement, prefer a clearly compliant black fabric. That is one reason this recipe needs an in-game check rather than blind copying.

For finishing, the source suggests black lace, buttons, and bows. Add them selectively. Use fabric and pattern pieces to get close to the gothic and professional targets first, then use accessories for small adjustments and visual cohesion.

If your draft or final score is short

• Recheck the exact requested attributes and color rules before spending more coin.
• Change a major pattern piece before stacking many accessories onto a weak silhouette.
• Filter the Emporium by the missing quality and compare materials you already own.
• Use two or three fabrics at first so each one has a clear job.
• Confirm there is enough cloth for all panels before purchase.
• Leave room in the budget for a required lace, button, or bow.
• Arrange every panel before cutting, and protect grain alignment when quality matters.
• Slow down around sewing curves instead of trying to recover quality later.

Accessories reportedly make smaller attribute changes than core patterns and fabric. If the commission already meets its requirements, optional decoration can be skipped to protect the budget. If it does not, return to the design and material choices before buying a large quantity of trim.
