Confirm the client and the event
Respectful Funeral is reported as Marie’s first major commission and one of three dresses made for the Duke’s funeral. Do not reuse the colour rule from another funeral brief:
- Prudence’s Flamboyant Funeral reportedly asks you to avoid black.
- Priya’s Fierce Funeral reportedly asks for only black.
- Marie’s Respectful Funeral reportedly asks for at least 50% black.
Steam’s public achievement text confirms the character name Marie: G.O.A.T. unlocks for completing all of Marie’s major commissions. Launch-week articles that used “Narue” carried a third-party transcription error.
Third-party achievement guides connect Laid To Dress with completing every requested dress for the Duke’s funeral. Steam currently hides that achievement’s description, so treat the event condition as reported rather than official.

Reported Respectful Funeral brief
Cozy Game Guides transcribed the card on September 26, 2026. Check every value against the sketchbook in your build before buying fabric.

Into Indie Games says the dress needs to be at least 50% black and may use more. A full-release playthrough uploaded September 24 described the same job as at least half black, simple, elegant, and formal. That agreement makes the overall direction useful, while the exact numeric thresholds still need an in-game screenshot.
One walkthrough’s starting builds
Into Indie Games listed several possible pattern pieces. These are starting points, not official requirements.
Choose one upper-body option:
- Heart princess bodice with no sleeves
- One-shoulder bodice
- Elevated sweetheart bodice
Choose one skirt:
- Bias-cut skirt
- Apron skirt
The guide recommends Onyx black silk because its reported tags support Elegant, Simple, and Formal. It also suggests lace only when Elegance is still short. Read the meters in your current build before cutting; do not stack every listed bodice or buy trim that the brief does not need.
Common failure points
These are inferences from the three different funeral briefs, not official patch notes.
- Following the wrong funeral rule. Priya’s black-only gothic build can work against Simple, while Prudence’s bright non-black approach can leave Marie below the black requirement.
- Overspending on a “simple” dress. The reported budget is 300. Velvet, sequins, and heavy trim can use the budget without improving Marie’s requested qualities.
- Guessing how colour share is counted. No official note explains how prints, linings, or lace affect the 50% black calculation. If the bar is short, inspect contrasting panels and trim before recutting the whole garment.
- Applying an unrelated patch fix. Build 403 fixed the single keyhole bodice for another pattern. Marie’s funeral does not require that bodice.
If you run out of money
A September 23 full-release report observed that restarting a dress did not undo fabric purchases. Until the studio documents refund behaviour, do not assume Restart Dress will return coin or materials.
A developer comment said off-the-rack dresses unlock after the third commission. Once that option is available, a small shop-window dress can provide another source of coin. Player videos also show the recycle control returning an uncommitted piece to the cutting table, although a single viewer report says cloth already trimmed away as excess does not return.
Use the troubleshooting guide before relying on any launch-week workaround.
Delivery checklist
- Confirm the measurements and mannequin belong to Marie.
- Read the current Formal, Elegant, and Simple targets from the live card.
- Keep the black share at or above the live requirement.
- Stay inside the displayed budget.
- Check that every sketchbook component has a matching piece on the mannequin.
- Update to Build 403 or later if a lace item refuses to count as lace trim.
If all meters are green but no Deliver control appears, follow the checks on the troubleshooting page. The September 27 research pass did not find a verified retail recording of that exact symptom.
